Are you a people person or a task person? Somewhere in life you’re going to have to be both. You can’t just sit around cranking on tasks all of the time – though there’s definitely a place for that. And you can’t just hang out with people all day and drink coffee – if you could why would they call it “work.”
What you can though, is know your default.
Knowing your default helps you detect when the balance of the scales tips too far in one direction. When you look up from your laptop and realize it is 6PM already – you default is tasks. When you rush back to the office to try to squirt out a few emails to catch people before they go home at the end of the day – you might default to relationships.
I honestly think you have to become proficient in both areas. While you might be a master your default – you have to make room for people and likewise you must accomplish tasks. Check your calendar or schedule and see what this upcoming week looks like, knowing your default is the first step in finding a stronger balance in life and ministry.
