Josh GriffinMore PostsI Need a Name!

We’re planning some Wednesday night fellowship nights at The Refinery this summer. I can’t think of a good name for them, and the people sitting with me in my office right now are dumb (they told me to write that as a bit).

Think High School, not Junior High! I need a name … HELP!

  1. How about calling it “the Night-Light”?

  2. Loiter-Fest!

  3. How about Connect?
Or if you want to have that ‘coffeehouse’ feel where kids can come and relax: Saddlebucks :)
    Sorry, not much help here.

  4. You could follow the same steps as most youth ministries:
    1. Pick a high energy verb. (example: explode)
    2. Emphasize an ‘x’ or a ‘z’ in the word. If the word does not have one of these letters, find another word. (example: X-plode)
    3. Refer to the ministry by this title alone (example: never use the word “Wednesday” in front of students. Ever.)
    4. Repeat for Junior High ministry.

  5. Just call it “Chill”

  6. Relax @ the Refinery (c)

  7. I am being serious here, just in case you think these are weird.

    Unbound
    Firefight
    Radiate
    Sacrifice
    Becoming Iron
    Centered
    Spotlight
    Formation
    Catacombs
    Trinisonic (where God meets harmony)

  8. Night of Awesome

    Who doesn’t love Wednesdays?

    Oh, You know, Wednesday nights…

  9. I use the term Mid-week ConneXtions (for our wednesday night outreach)

  10. Sit on your butts night?

  11. We call ours U-Nite!
It stands for unity night or unite… One of the students came up with it and it has stuck ever since.

  12. How about “Rewired”?

  13. “Fuel” because it’s The Refinery. Plus “Fuel” is both a verb and a noun, opening the door to many promo opportunities.

  14. bluetooth johnson

what about Wednesday Night Hang Out Night On Wednesday

  15. hey man, I think “forge groups”

  16. ACTION – all church training in one night

So you have TEEN Action, YOUTH Action, et al

  17. Or go with Greek and actually try to TEACH teens letters (before they go off to some drunken frat house). Example: Delta Tau Chi (Dedicated Teens for Christ) or Sigma Zeta (Student Zone). You get the pix.

Or go with some tie to a TV show. Eli Stone (a very surreal show) has the “LIVE BRAVE” theme going. Sure beats the theme of the Office (live nerdy)

  18. “American Idol Results Show Night”

  19. How about HSM “After Hours”.

  20. Live Life Live. (Not sure just popped in to my head)

*To help with any confusion the first “live” is as in “breathing”.
The second is as in “at the moment”. Since they are spelled the same.

  21. i like the after hours idea. what kind of format will this night have? we’re about to launch a monthly fellowship night, but are a little unsure about how to proceed — would love to know what you have planned!

  22. Well what is it that you will be Doing Josh? What will the wed night look like, because what you are going to try to accomplish will effect the name of it? Let us know and then I think we can be a little more helpful

  23. Coffee talk with Linda Richmond.
    The Daily Grind

  24. Wouldn’t it be the weekly grind? Since it is every Wednesday.

  25. Chillaxin (that’s what summer nights are all about)

  26. We call ours ‘the burn’. Its a 1 peter 1;7 ref as I assume the refinery is as well. We stay away from flame images though and use a black and white typewrite font. Actually our first logo we just ripped off the Cheap Trick logo, layers and all. Whats youth ministry without copyright violations?

  27. How about:

    2717
(as in Proverbs…hey actually help them remember a reference)

    Burnin’ Down the House
(you could sample some Talking Heads for your promos)

    MeltDown
(an obvious and possibly weak connection to the Refinery…this could also include Purify, WhiteHot, Fusion, and The Smelt…and I’m sure your junior high guys would have a field day with that last one)

It’s Wednesday, What Else Am I Gonna Do Night
