Josh GriffinMore Posts“No Screens” to Start Your Day

no_screens.jpg

I’m excited about a consideration that Kurt asked all of our Student Ministries team to make at the last team meeting. He asked us to come in each morning and abide by a “no screens” policy for a few minutes at the office. No laptop, no phone, no PDA (do people still have those?), no computer, no iPod, nothing.

Use those first few minutes to spend some time with God, Bible reading, prayer, and focused planning on the day. Maybe journal a few minutes, think about priorities and encouraging co-workers. too quickly we jump into email and tasks and forget to start out right.

Well …. I’ve done it all week – I love it!

  1. I’ve been doing this for a little less than a month – what a difference! It used to be that the first thing I would do in the morning was check e-mail, then quiet time. Let’s just say that checking e-mail first can get you heading in a hundred different directions (none of which is towards that quiet time, by the way).

Since I’ve been doing it I’ve definitely seen the difference (and so have people around me – like my wife – WIN!).

  2. I have had a surprisingly difficult time with that half hour.
    I read yesterday…and went to Starbucks today…
I need to find a daily task…or at least something to do once a week.
I love it as a concept, but it’s so tough!

  3. Gonna try it next week!

  4. I started this week with you Josh and Kurt. It is amazing how many hours I added to my day and how smooth the rest of each day has been. Planning/Strategizing and listening to God. Great idea guys. Looking forward to seeing what God can do through us because of the opportunity we have given to Him.

I started this a month or so ago as well. Although I have a 3 year old running around during “quiet time,” I am still able to do some devotions and meditation – speaking and listening to God. Speaking of, I am reading John Eldredge’s new book, “Walking with God.” It is SO great – it talks about speaking and listening to God. 6. Gonna start this tomorrow!
