This week we start Bringing Sexy Back – here’s the proposed arc of the series that starts this weekend:
- Week 1 – The History of Sex: the cultural progression of sex by decade, from 1950 to today. An introduction to the series and an overview of a biblical worldview of sex. We’re hoping for songs from each decade and a short video from each time period as well, culminating with a teaching on the timeless standards of the Bible.
- Week 2 – Your Basic Sex Talk: how guys and girls work, temptation, hormones and more. The room is divided up with a pink side and a blue side. Should be hilarious with some fun videos and a classic skit.
- Week 3 – Tough Questions and Frank Answers: we go after the biggies – lust, homosexuality, emotional purity, how far is too far and more. Questions are collected the two previous weeks.
- Week 4 – Everything About Sex I Learned from _____: the influences of our beliefs and perceptions about our sex lives. We’re going to play clips from TV, movies, the internet, iTunes and read a few passages from some books – then ultimately ask students to commit to living out the truths about sex from the ultimate book – God’s Word. The series ends with a call to purity and an extended singing time.

When it comes to the messages that you guys do for the HSM, do they correspond with the adult services or is it your own schedule of messges kind of thing? I am working on having the student messages be the same topic as the main service for the ability to have families talk about the subject. What are your thoughts?
In a few cases (1-2 a year) they meet up. Far more often, they are separate topics.
