Are podcasts dead? Nope … just maturing a bit I would say. Millions of people listen to podcasts (think radio shows on demand) every week – here’s 6 you should be sure not to miss:
The Simply Youth Ministry Podcast – this is a weekly youth ministry show featuring Doug Fields and Friends. I’m one of the friends, and we enjoy putting together a show every week or so. We’ve been doing it for a few years, but just jump in and you’ll figure it out. Just enough youth ministry so you don’t feel guilty for not working.
The Tardy Cast – Mariner’s High School Ministry weekend messages, featuring Jeff McGuire. He’s got a great style of communicating to HS students, and I love that they embrace the technology to get talks to their students who can’t make it to the weekend.
North Point Ministries: Andy Stanley – Great trainings from Andy Stanley. North Point has other podcasts, but this one focuses solely on Andy.
LifeChurch.TV Worship – LifeChurch.tv broadcasts their music sets each week from each campus. It is a great weekly dose of free live performances of popular worship songs.
Mars Hill Bible Church – Great weekly teaching from Rob Bell and others. There’s a NOOMA show as well, but I prefer this one.
Stuff You Should Know – How Stuff Works puts out a weekly 5-minute show that’s enjoyable. I also Tivo How It’s Made, Modern Marvels and America Eats. I enjoy useless tidbits of trivial knowledge. It makes me feel powerful.

5 sound pretty good.
What?!? No love for the Who are these guys? podcast? That’s cold, man!
Josh -
Thanks for this listing!
Mars Hill is great. It’s one of my weekly courses of iPOD goodness.
The NOOMA podcast is actually just previews of the NOOMA vids. Great, so you can get an idea before you buy, but not a real podcast.
Rob Bell? Really?
Even though he doesn’t hold scripture as the final athority?
Even though Rob Bell thinks that the bible is ever changing?
Sure he sounds really cool, and at times has awesome things to share. Do you really want your students falling in love with a theology which does not put Jesus and scripture in high athority?
I mean, I know this is extreme but would you want your students taking spiritural advice and direction from Oprah? Because Bell and Oprah are in-line with the same theology.

So you listen to these every week? You amaze me. I want your time ninja secrets. You should do a time study for your loyal fans and share it on your blog so we can see how you spend your time. How much you blog, how much you pour into yourself, how much time with volunteers, how much time with family, etc.
That could be extremely helpful!

@Matthew Shoot! Who could I forget Who Are These Guys!? Download that one, too: http://www.whoaretheseguyspodcast.com/
@Tim dude, just give up sleep!
@Mike My blog centers on youth workers out there, not students. Hopefully, they can be discerning when me/anyone speaks from the Bible.

I guess I should check some of these 5 podcasts. It just feels like there is not enough time to do it all. There is so much stuff to read, surf, do… etc
Josh,
Really? You think that YouthWorkers have taken then time to check out each person who they find “cool”? I have read every Bell book and listened to dozens of podcasts. I didn’t catch anything that could be fishy with Bell until I started looking into the Emergent movement. Which I know you and Saddleback are not a part of.
But, my question is with the power you have with this blog and other leadership avenues you have, you promoting a person like Bell and others who have this type of theology, it is a dangerous thing.
Maybe you are like me and didn’t know really want Bell believe. You can google him and find out. Although I do think some people are just bashing him instead of taking an honest look at him and the Emergent movement he is in.
Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill, Seattle, did an awesome presentation at Southern Seminary about the different movements happening in the US right now.
We are youth workers and want the best for our students and want to be on the cutting edge of things, in my opinion Bell is not on the cutting edge at all but rather, he is “repainting the Christian faith”, into something that is not Christian at all.
But, no more attacking here. You are an awesome guy and thank you for your resources! The Podcasts you recommend are top notch, except for the Bell one
DUDE! I gave that up along time ago, you should know that. Xbox live late nighters!
Great call on the podcasts. I listen to the Mars Hill one all the time. It’s easy to misconstrue Bell’s teachings. Like all things chew the meat and spit the bones
@Mike Said,
“Really? You think that YouthWorkers have taken then time to check out each person who they find “cool”?”
Yes. I have. And after also ‘reading every Bell book and listening to all his podcasts’ I don’t know how you can place him on the same theological level with a woman who lives after the writings of Eckhart Tolle. That’s a pretty big accusation. Last time I ‘checked out’ Bell I found him to be very Biblical and very concerned with following hard after the words of Jesus. And only Jesus.
Feel free to disagree with me about Bell, but don’t feel free to judge other people’s spiritual stances and lump them together in your own categories. That’s not “cool.”
Since you mention Rob, you might get a kick out of this one.
Nice post, by the way.

Have you tried Mars Hill Church with Mark Driscoll?
Resurgence is also a GREAT podcast.
SYM is still my fav
I first heard about Rob Bell through the Nooma videos which I used as conversation starters. However, the more I studied Bell the more concerned I became and after reading Velvet Elvis I jumped completely off the Bell bandwagon. I may check him out from time to time just to see how others think but I don’t trust his teachings and I would never suggest anyone to read his stuff or listen to him as a learning tool.
There is a great podcast from STR.com that you all might want to check out. Greg Koukl is a Christian philosopher and he does an amazing job of describing how to find the key elements of discussions and how to rationally talk about our faith.
Christianity is a thinking persons faith.
Hey I listened to The Mars Hill one and it was really good. My ABS has watched a large number of the NOOMA video and I have read Velvet Elvis so this was really neat to see. Maybe I’ll have to look into some of the others!
Thanks Josh!
Great list of podcasts! I’m now listening to Andy Stanley.
My list of top 6 podcasts:
1. The Dave Ramsey Show: http://www.daveramsey.com/radio/home/
2. ESPN’s PTI
3. SYM
4. Family Life
5. Focus on the Family
6. Best of YouTube
Here’s my top list:
1) SYM
2) Mars Hill
3) Let My People Think (RZIM)
4) Just Thinking (RZIM) – Ravi Zacharias is a Christian Philosopher and Apologist. Both of these PodCasts are actually sermons that Ravi or other members of the RZIM team have preached all over the world. It’s really solid, scriptural apologetics, as well as being highly intellectual.
5) DriveTime Devotionals – I love this one. One book at a time, One chapter a week, and 15 minutes a day. It’s part of my morning routine on the train into work.
Here’s mine
1. SYM
2. Mars Hill Church (Mark Driscoll, not Rob Bell)
3. Resurgence podcast
4. Northpoint podcast (Andy Stanley)
5. Let My People Think/Just Thinking (RZIM)
6. Liquid Church
7. Focus of the Family
8. Village Church (just started listening to this one but it is great so far)
hey griff…
thanks for the love re: the tardycast

Dude, now Reformata doesn’t like you … who knew that May 28th post would come back to get you?
This all reminds me of a book I’m reading that I think you’ll appreciate … a lot … more than I did even, and I loved it. Remind me to let you borrow it when I get back. You’ll finish it in a couple days.
