Josh GriffinMore PostsBook Review: Churched

A buddy gave me a copy of this book yesterday morning. I typically go for the easy read, and this book presented little challenge to an afternoon of reading. Churched is a dryly funny retrospective look at growing up in a fundamental church. Having much of the same upbringing myself, it was fun seeing myself in Matthew Paul Turner’s story. Stuff like Patch the Pirate, Sword of the Lord, door-to-door soulwinning, swallowing goldfish, Christian school, PACEs, not going to movies, backmasking, Hell and getting saved hundreds of times as a child. The epilogue of the book was a little unsatisfying for me, but I guess that’s the point – the journey continues – if perhaps a bit more free of fundamentalism. B+

  1. Considering all the recent drama on your blog, I can think of a couple people I’d look to mail this book to.

  2. Amazing timing …
