Weekend Teaching Series: Refuel (week 1 of 3)
Sermon Title: Running on Empty
Sermon in a Sentence: God wants us to live a refueled life, focusing on our relationship with Him not doing religion.
Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 7 out of 10.

Attendance:Down 5% from the previous weekend, up 45% from this same weekend last year
Service Length: 75 minutes
Understandable Message: This week the talk was the series kickoff for Refuel, based on the new book from Doug Fields. The heart behind it was that we get caught in the game of comparison and the trap of doing and never live the life God intended, walking with Him refueled each day. This was the setup week to introduce the topic and invite everyone to join us for this journey – the next 2 weeks we’re gonna go super practical with the how. Excited to see students responding to this message – we also did a live survey of our students and asked them to vote on their spiritual connection to God right now – about 30% would rank themselves and weak or empty. We need this series right now … shoot, I do, too.

Volunteer/Student Involvement: Students and adult volunteers ran the control room, the computer, lights, sound and cameras. I gave the announcements in the adult services this weekend as well, making a push for more adult weekend leaders – if you’ve been in the balcony during a weekend service you would know why. We’re doing well, but need more help for sure.

Element of Fun/Positive Environment: We had a couple of fun videos – our Refuel series video and the HSM Action News announcements – that kept things different. The team put it some solid work this week making it happen, and the energy in the room was great. We also played a game, called the RE-diculous game, that was a total blast and kept the intro fun as well.

Music Playlist: Here It Goes, Grace, The Stand, Your Love Is Strong

Favorite Moment: During the 11:15am Sunday service, everything totally came together. I love it when that happens. We gave students who promised to read them a copy of Doug Fields’ book Refuel from the HSM resource area as well – so many were interested in it, that was super! A great way to deepen the experience and topic from the weekend.

Next up: Refuel, week 2
