Josh GriffinMore PostsVolunteers Gone Wild

Made a quick mental note this afternoon about a funny/awkward moment during our New Mexico mission trip reunion this afternoon. Before I said anything, I got this email from one of our volunteers tonight:

Josh,

I think you already know this, but I just want to clear things up just in case. XXXXXX’s comments at the New Mexico reunion about my driving on the mission trip was her idea of being funny. It was unfortunate she chose to do that in front of tons of other students, parents and staff. I know perception is a big deal. It crushed me to think that others who trust our ministry now might think there’s a leader who doesn’t take the safety of students seriously. That’s not only a black eye on me, but potentially for our ministry, too.

I’m sorry that happened. I’m not sure there’s a fix that wouldn’t cause more damage than it would raised eyebrows of those who didn’t hear the comments. However, it made for good blog material.

Serving safely,

DB

I love this email (and his related blog post). It shows great concern for the ministry, the perception in that moment and most of all a heart to keep kids safe. Potentially challenging confrontation turned into a win for everyone.
