Weekend Teaching Series: The 56th Annual HSM Olympiad (end of summer 1-off)
Sermon in a Sentence: Pray that God will use you this year at your school.
Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 9 out of 10
Service Length: 74 minutes
Understandable Message: This weekend we changed up everything and just had fun. We gave the auditorium to the Wildside (junior high) ministry and we took over the gym. It was a huge departure from our typical, for sure. The message basically consisted of me casting a vision of life change this year, and a directed prayer time for students to make a difference this year in their schools. It was a fun weekend, but honestly I’m glad we only do it once a year.
Volunteer/Student Involvement: Students did the music this weekend and a few others dressed up in togas to usher in students at the beginning of the night. Volunteers helped with decorations, making the medals, setup, cleanup and officiating some of the games.
Element of Fun/Positive Environment: The whole weekend was setup around 10 HSM Olympic games – random games from 4-way tug-o-war to blowing a bubble with the gum you found in the whip cream pie plate. Each service had its own energy – translation: some were awesome, some weren’t quite as awesome.
Music Playlist: Eye of the Tiger, 2 worship songs that I’ve now forgotten
Favorite Moment: The best moment was from this morning’s service – we played a saran wrap game and the junior class team wrapped up a disabled kid in his wheelchair and he whisked effortlessly around the cones for the big win. It was fantastic, and earned him HSM Olympic gold.
