3 dudes, all sitting together, that all ordered the exact same thing unknowingly.

Jason Castro from American Idol was in church this morning! One of the high school staff guys knew him from back in a day, so we all got together and connected for the service and a meal. Jason is a super down to earth guy, a solid Christian, and is really genuine. I’m excited to have predicted him to be the winner for a few reasons: 1) he’s humble and if/when fame lands on him, he’ll carry it right, and 2) he’s a legitimate unknown talent who is on quite a ride with this whole thing.

I’ll post some real pictures soon – these were all I had from ye ol’ camera phone. Jason is the real deal!

  1. Thank you for the article. :-)

  2. Well, being an Atheist, the whole Christian thing makes me go “durn it”, he’s one of THOSE. BUT, if it’s his faith that helps him to be humble, down to earth, and an all around good “soul”, then I say “kudos to him”! (Though I’m pretty sure Jason would be all that with or without the faith.) I don’t like to be judged so I certainly won’t judge him. I can’t anyway, I adore the guy! This just goes to show that people from all walks of life find Jason intriguing and have the utmost appreciation for his beauty (inner and outer, but especially inner) and talent. Jason, you’re turning a dying show into a hit again…thank you for being you!

  3. Thanks so much for sharing this :)

Thank you so much for sharing, and if you have a chance to pass a message on, please let Jason know he has so many prayers and so much support from the HUGE Dreadhead community. We are all pulling for him. His presence in the current music scene is so necessary, as he will be in the position to affect a lot of lives in a positive manner and spread the love of the Creator with his influence. We love you, Jason. God Bless!

  6. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Im vary glad to see Jason showing his faith and love of the Lord. I can’t wait for those other pictures!

  7. I was wondering if he was gonna attend church on Easter. So glad that he got to. That’s awesome! It’s so important to stay grounded in one’s faith and what is real, especially with his recent upsurge in popularity, and clearly Jason knows that. I love that he is who he is and has his eye on the prize, God. :)

  8. Awww…I love him!!!! This makes me love him even more. He’s so much fun to watch. And his humility and smile are so refreshing. Also, it’s exciting to have a local Dallas area person in the top 10! Go Jason!!! :) Moms and their daughters love you!

  9. It is so nice to read your article and to see that Jason is grounded both in faith and in humility. I love his style of music and wish American Idol would feature Folk music or Folk Rock as a theme! Good luck Jason! You’re the best legitimate unknown talent on the show! Soon you WILL be known to all!

  10. Oh how cool! I didn’t know this about him but that is great.

  11. Love jason. He rocks. Thanks for the story.

If you’re into his dreads you will like this site – http://dreadheadtimes.com/

    Vote for Jason!!!
    Peace.

  12. Thanks for sharing this… I’m glad he got to go:) Glad to see he got to spend Easter with is family:) I love this guy!!!!

  13. Jen I completely agree with you. I’m an atheist too, and I love Jason and i was kind of like oh…he’s really religious…but he’s so sweet and if he’s that way because of his religion then I’m glad he is :)

  14. Yes, thank you for posting this! I am a HUGE fan of Jason Castro for numerous reasons. One, being his faith and love for the Lord! I loved him the first time I heard him sing, but when I found out he was a Christian…that sold me! I’m hooked for the rest of the season (and as long as he’s playing/singing music for that matter!) His humility and genuine character shows through in every performance he does. Thank the Lord for a contestant like JASON!

  15. Thanks, Joshua, for a great post!

I agree, Cassidy – loved his singing on AI, and for days was just really nagged by a desire to know more about him. I finally Googled him and found the YouTube video of him singing “Clumsy” in church and was absolutely floored. I had one of those “Aha, God…are you trying to tell me something?” moments! LOL!”

Something about this kid has brought me closer to the Lord…he radiates Jesus’ love, and emits such an inner peace that I wanted to get more of it for myself! I’m even reading the Bible again, and I really feel that if God has used Jason in such a random way to reach me, then we are in for some wonderful things from him that will reach far beyond AI. (So, way to go, Jason – I’m old enough to be your Mom…albeit a young Mom…but you’ve won a fan for life here!)

I came across Philemon 1:5-7 (told you I was reading the Bible again! lol!) and I’m convinced that lil’ Jason Castro is living it…and I am so grateful to him for that. I hope he can keep that fire in his heart in the face of the stress and challenges that he faces in this competition and always remember that God will work all things for his good:

5 It is because I hear of your love and trust in the Lord Jesus and in all the Christians. 6 I pray that our faith together will help you know all the good things you have through Christ Jesus. 7 Your love has given me much joy and comfort. The hearts of the Christians have been made happy by you, Christian brother.

  16. Jason seems like a very humble, down to earth guy that would come from a Christian background.

  18. i really like him. his face looks like an angel. …. he looks like jonathan brandis.

  19. I am just so proud of Jason. It just makes me smile that he is a strong Christian and following Jesus’ plan for his life. You are very blessed to know Jason. I’m praying that he stays strong in his faith and that he continues to be a great witness and testimony for our Lord. If you get a chance to talk to him please let him know what I said and ask him to look through his fanmail because I sent him a letter a while ago, which I believe will be uplifting to him on his journey. Thank you so much! Take care and God bless both you and Jason.

I knew from the first time I saw Jason on the show there was something special about this kid. When I found out he was a Christian, I realized wow, that’s the Lord shining through him. How cool is that. He’s going to go so far in life! I can’t wait to buy his album. :)

  21. PLEASE tell Jason to check out Willow Creek Church if he’s ever in the Chicago area. http://www.willowcreek.org. It would be phenomenal if he were a guest worship leader.

They have New Community (worship & bible study) on Wednesday nights and I have been surprised and delighted by some of the guest musicians who have chosen to participate in worship. I’ve seen Robin Mark, Selah, and Matt Redman there. Willow Creek has an enormous presence and an equally large commitment to reaching out to non- and new believers. I began my Christian journey at Willow and I think it is a perfect place for someone like Jason who is living out authenticity in the ‘real world’. I also intend to write to the pastors there to suggest that they invite Jason.

Jason would be a most welcomed visitor, I’m sure.

  22. I really like Jason Castro’s music, his voice, his inique style, and the fact that he’s a Christian. He will probably never see this comment, but no matter, I’ll be praying for him. I’m old enough to be his grandmother, but I’d like to think that I have good taste. Also I hope success doesn’t mess him up. Jason, stay grounded in the LORD.

  23. Jason, is wonderful. I love his soulful singing and his facial expressions when he sings. He puts so much into it. I really hope he wins American Idols but either way, he has a future ahead of him.
Glad to hear he is also a Christian. May he be blessed in all that he does. Wish I was 20 years younger. Lucky the girl who gets him. He is gorgeous!.

  24. I would love to hear Jason sing “Morning has Broken”. This old Christian song would be perfect for his style

  25. yeeaaahhh so im a bit jealous.
its amazing when God brings people like that into such positions where they have a chance to impact the masses. i get so nervous for them though…desperate to see them emulate Him well and not get weighed down by our modern Babylon… im SO glad you guys crossed paths with him though! i’ll bet you were more of an encouragement to him than you know. its SO hard, working and living in close quarters with unbelievers. everyday im confronted with “the real world” (im a flight attendant with United) and its so freaking unholy that sometimes its downright painful to face. but He is still good and soverign. he knows just how much we can take.

so glad you got to be a blessing to jason
(now how can we get him to visit MY church…hmm…. ;-)

  26. Thank you so much for sharing!! I am a HUGE Jason Castro fan and I was so happy when I heard he went to Church! I thought he did though! But I will keep voting for him! And I want him to win for the same reasons you put! Thanks again!

  27. Thank the lord he is a “solid christian”

I thought he was just ugly.

Now I know he’s goofy too.

  28. Thank you for posting this. I hate it when people give him a bad rap because of his dread locks. He has the most amazing voice. That is coming from me a 50 year old woman and my husband who is 53. We aren’t little teen girls, (as a lot of people say his fans are). I do have one quick question. On youtube there is a video of Jason with the audio of “crazy”. In one of the frames he his standing in front of a picture of a bear and is blowing smoke. It would break my heart if he smokes (for many reasons to include it woud hurt his voice). Could you clarify this, because some people think he his blowing “pot”. Again maybe assumptions because of his dreadlocks.

  29. I love to hear that Jason is a Christian!! I knew something was different about him and now I see that it is the Lord’s presence in his heart! May the Lord continue to use Jason for His glory!
