Had an amazing time tonight – got to hang out with American Idol contestant Chris Sligh up at a restaurant in LA. He’s the real deal – a sharp, funny guy. Leesa Bellesi (Natalie‘s mom) and friend Tony and I all went up to the backlot of Idol at the CBS Studios and got to see lots of celebrities and have a blast before dinner, too. Whew – full update tomorrow!

Spent the morning with some guys getting ready to prep the new Rick Warren podcast, if you haven’t listened to it yet, give it a shot. Gonna be a pretty solid new free offering from Saddleback. Check it out.

Had an impromptu staff meeting with Pastor Rick, a celebration of the Easter services that went really well. Someone said over 17,000 cars were on campus over the 4 days. Simply amazing to think about – even the new parking lots were almost filled to capacity on several occasions.
After the staff meeting, Pastor Rick bought everyone lunch – it took more than 1 billion tacos to feed the office staff (OK, maybe like 500), even with many away on missions trips and such. It was super fun meeting and hang. Kudos to Jonathan and Adam for the great video they made, too! Crazy delicious.

Does this excite anyone else? I still haven’t decided whether or not to participate in the beta, wanting more to keep my experience “pure” – but don’t know if I can hold back. Knowing thousands of people are playing Halo 3 and I’m not … shoot …
Bungie and Microsoft have announced that the Halo 3 multiplayer beta will be gunning for Xbox Live on May 16, with three all-new maps and fresh vehicles to try out. From 1pm (GMT) on May 16 any Xbox 360 owners who managed to secure their admission to the beta, either after buying a special copy of Crackdown or through the Rule of Three promotion, can don their Spartan helmet and get ready for some full-on Halo 3 action. The beta lasts until June 7.

The Christian Post has a new article today on youth ministry and the perpetual cycle we find ourselves in. Here’s a clip:
Youth workers are working hard, but the reality for many is the countless hours they have put in are not resulting in the transformation they are hoping for in students’ lives.Kara Powell, executive director of the Center for Youth and Family Ministry at Fuller Seminary, worked in youth ministry for 19 years. She came to a point where she had a “scary” realization.
“Here I had given countless hours to something I believed in … and was passionate about it. And while, of course, God was changing students’ lives, it wasn’t the type of transformation that I was hoping for and I think I had been clinging to the verse in the Scripture that God’s word will not return void,” she said in a Youth Specialties (youth workers organization) interview.
The reality for many ministering to students is their ministry is not quite where they want it to be, noted Powell, who co-authored Deep Ministry in a Shallow World with Chap Clark, professor of youth, family and culture at Fuller.
Many youth ministries end up running the same programs and conducting the same retreats every year and hope kids will change from it.
“That’s what we do in youth ministry,” said Powell.
