HSM Weekend in Review: Volume 5

Josh on May 27th, 2008

Weekend Teaching Series: Congratulations…You’re Gifted (Week 1 of 3)
Message Title: Learn || Live || Lead
Sermon in a Sentence: Every body part in the body of Christ is called by God to be significant by serving; to learn how you can/should be serving you need to discover your S.H.A.P.E.
Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 6 out of 10. Not a lot of elements, some videos, and a little message heavy.
Attendance: down 6% from last weekend, up 14% from same weekend last year
Service Length: 71 minutes
Understandable Message: B Griff and Pease did a good job of explaining that everyone has a purpose and what S.H.A.P.E. is. Tag teamed a little differently, Griff taught then Pease taught the conclusion and takeaway. Some good seeds were planted but the rest of the series and follow up conversations are vital to getting students mobilized in ministry in this season of HSM.

Volunteer/Student Involvement: C/A- Average volunteer involvement, nothing asked of them that goes above and beyond. Student involvement was high: two videos of students serving and live student testimony of how he is doing Global Soles in his school. Used some of the students that we have used on stage in the past, it is so easy to fall into who we know we can trust and who is comfortable being on stage.

Element of Fun: B Stupid Human Tricks right after the opening song. One girl and one boy, not a competition…but boys won every time by a long shot. Maybe next time we should use some planted students? Also showed an old school Matt McGill sports instructional video during the message.

Positive Environment: B+
Music Playlist: I Will Possess Your Heart (Opener: Death Cab for Cutie), Everlasting God, Words That You Say, Blessed be Your Name

Favorite Moment: Seeing the Relational Greeting Team in full effect at the 4:30 service. Even though it is our smallest service I think it is the time that the most relational ministry happens because it is the same students every week, and everything is set up and ready to go well before the first attending student shows up.

Notes: We are in Prom and Senior/Graduation season so energy is a little low, and attendance is a little down especially coming off the sex series. We handed out SHAPE tests and over the next couple of weeks we will start getting more students involved in ministries. Also, we handed summer calendars out to every student while they were leaving … no turning back. Our calendar is packed and with the new building opening there are lots of opportunities to connect with students, and for students to bring their un-churched friends.

Overall grade: B
