Josh GriffinMore PostsJake Broke the Car

Jake broke the car tonight. Yes, that’s Jake, Allison and I in the back of a cop car. We’re off to a great start, eh? Leigh even saw us along the side of the road. For the record, the cop let us in the back of the cop car to get warm, and the accident happened at a paltry 15mph. But still, makes for some great blog fodder, eh?

Josh GriffinMore PostsSmothered, Covered and Chunked

Just back from a sweet little Waffle House in Northern Kentucky – spent some great time with local youth workers Shan and Josh, and had some of the best hashbrowns in the whole world. Back to work …

Josh GriffinMore PostsDay of Pickup Shots

We’re shooting a few pickup shots here in Cincinnati for the Group Conference evening general session videos. Conference people are all over the place, the stage is being setup and the whole place is being transformed into a youth worker paradise. My favorite part is all of these giant gray bean bag seats (Sack Chairs, I’m now told) all over the place … going to crash into one of those tonight for sure!

Josh GriffinMore PostsDVD Review: Soul Searching

Just watched the DVD Soul Searching on the plane to Cincinnati. It is a really well put together project, one of the first things that struck me was beautiful and well done it was. The content was also strong – it is a documentary on the stories of American teenager and their relationship to God. I think it is something I’ll show to volunteers in the future, there were some really powerful moments in the film. For me, the biggest takeaway was the reminder that students’ lives are changed and youth workers make a big difference. It also underscores the importance of the home and the role friends play in students’ lives. Youth workers should definitely watch this 79-minute film. A+

Josh GriffinMore PostsGarbage Disposal Nightmares

Am I the only one out there that worries about making sure that water is always running when you use the garbage disposal? Every time it starts with no water I literally jump to turn on the water and think, “whew – that was a close one!”

Sooo …will it really ruin the garbage disposal if there’s no water running? Hot or cold water? Is this just an urban household appliance urban legend that has me spooked?

Josh GriffinMore PostsBook Review: UnChristian

I enjoyed this book – I finally got a chance to finish this one on the flight here for the Group Conference. Honestly it has taken me a while to get through it, it has a very left-brained statistical approach to what I was hoping were some really practical takeaways. What most struck me about the book was that I have had similar realizations to what the book suggests. The UnChristian faith is anti-homosexual, political, judgemental machine. The UnChristian faith forgets relationship and values conversion, is typically sheltered from the “real world,” and is rampant with hypocrisy. The book presents a “New Christian” value system where we don’t shy away from truth or doctrine, but we change the way we approach the world. An interesting take on ministering to busters and mosaics. B

Josh GriffinMore PostsSoul Searching Screening at Group

Here’s the YouTube version of a trailer for Soul Searching, a youth and God documentary that will screen at Group this week. Looks interesting – I grabbed it on DVD but haven’t had a chance to check it out yet.
