Josh GriffinMore PostsNew Small Group DVD: Tuff Stuff

Thought this new DVD small group material might be something that you’re interested in checking out. Click the image above to head to Simply Youth Ministry and watch an intro video from Kurt Johnston on the new series. Looks great!

The Tuff Stuff junior high DVD curriculum is designed to remove the stress of speaking and preparation for small group leaders and allow them to focus on how to best connect with their students.

Kurt Johnson tackles the hard questions on living life that he gets from his own junior high students in “Tuff Stuff”. Each DVD series includes video of Kurt teaching five lessons, along with leader and student guides. The leader guide has probing questions that will help your students open up and guide them to God’s answers.

Topics for the series include:

  • Fitting In
  • Why All the Bad/Sad Stuff
  • Aren’t All Religions the Same?
  • How Do I Know What’s True?
  • End Times

Josh GriffinMore Posts2 New Books at SYM

New at Simply Youth Ministry this week … a couple new books from Kurt Johnston and Marko. They sound great! My Friends and My School. Here’s the description of the second:

Middle School is like a roller coaster, filled with ups and downs, twists and turns; it’s exhilarating and scary all at the same time! From piles of homework to understanding the variety of “interesting” people working at your school and dealing with the new challenges of changing for gym class in front of everyone, it’s normal to feel a little overwhelmed.

That’s why in My School from the Middle School Survival Series, we’ll tackle the things that weight heavily on middle school students just like you. This book will address important middle school issues like:

  • dealing with bullies, jocks, nerds, and every other category of student you encounter
  • revealing the truth behind the urban legends of middle school
  • pop quizzes, tardiness, and other survival tips

Josh GriffinMore PostsYouth Pastor of the Year

I posted on Kurt winning the Youth Pastor of the Universe award earlier today. Just now he’s posted some great thoughts on the award, that if you’re interested might be cool to read. Here’s a clip, head to his blog for the rest, and bookmark him while you’re there!

Church phone rings and is answered by receptionist who happens to know me better than Fields…

TCR: “Hello, can you please give us the name of your youth pastor?”

Church receptionist who happens to know me better than Fields: “Uh, Kurt Johnston?”

TCR: “Thank you.”

And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, is how I have become America’s Top Youth Pastor two years in a row.
