POLL: Youth Ministry Internships

on February 1st, 2012

This week’s poll question asks about internship opportunities at your church. Just a few years ago opportunities were few and far between – seems like now there are a TON of places to get your first experience in youth ministry. Curious if you have interns in your setting, too!

POLL: Youth Workers and Tattoos

on January 23rd, 2012

When I was growing up – it wasn’t even close to OK to have a tattoo and be a youth worker. Things have changed a bit – and while I still don’t have any tattoos myself, some incredible youth workers around me do. How about you? Obviously opinions/positions are welcomed in the comments, too!

Next week Group’s bi-annual youth worker salary survey comes out – thought it might be fun to get the pulse on money and youth ministry. Are you paid fairly at your church? Vote in this week’s poll!

POLL: Youth Workers and Porn

on January 9th, 2012

I realize that this poll is a little jarring to be hit with on a Monday morning … but I would love your anonymous honesty. Youth workers – are you looking at porn?

POLL: Do you listen to secular music?

on January 2nd, 2012

I’ve got a feeling this poll will be a little polarizing. Do you listen to secular music? Would love to know your thoughts about the type of music a youth pastor can listen to and vote in this week’s poll!

POLL: Bus Driver’s License

on December 5th, 2011

This week’s poll isn’t for everyone – but I’m curious whether or not you can drive a bus. In my first church, I was asked by the leadership to get a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to drive the church bus for big events and camps – I ended up driving it for everyone and everything! Where I serve now it isn’t a necessity so I let it lapse. How about you? Just curious!

POLL: Best Time for Vacation

on November 25th, 2011

Was talking to some younger youth workers this past week and they had a great question – when do you take vacation from your church/youth ministry? Is there a particular time of the year or month that is easiest, best or most needed personally? Vote in this week’s poll and explain your answers in the comments.

For me, I love August – the calm before the “back to school” storm. And recently I’ve started to really embrace Christmas season as well. That one is still busy at the church, but there’s plenty of time to be stolen/taken off there to give you a break from the day to day of youth group. Thoughts?

POLL: Do students know your church’s denomination?

on November 8th, 2011

Was teaching this week at a denominational gathering of youth workers and it made me think – I wonder how many of our students know what denomination our church is (Southern Baptist, if you didn’t know either)? Some churches are more obvious and have it right in the name, but it seems like many are now a bit more ambiguous. How about your setting? Is it important? Vote in the poll and let me know what you think in the comments!

There are more coaching networks, blogs and events than ever that specialize in youth ministry. Made my wonder where you are best being mentored/coached … if at all? Vote in this week’s poll!
