You can get in on it by jumping on their webinar website, and can also ask questions and interact with the speakers and other youth workers. Should be cool!

Josh GriffinMore PostsWhen Student Leadership is Run Well

Loved this post from Doug Franklin over at LeaderTreks -made me thankful for the progress we’re making right now with our newly relaunched Student Leadership program as well. It is a great article – head there for the whole thing – here’s a great clip from near the end…

When a student leadership team is run well it will:
1.    Not be for every student in your youth group
2.    Require students to meet a standard of behavior for application
3.    Meet on a regular basis
4.    Study leadership principles
5.    Have students in real and important leadership roles
6.    Allow students to make decisions without direction from adults
7.    Students will face consequences for their decisions
8.    Students will see themselves as the owners of their youth group
9.    Will have adult facilitators who are passionate about student leaders
10.    Will challenge students to do the impossible

Josh GriffinMore PostsConverge Student Leadership Conference 2012

Just finished up recording a “digital presenter” session for the Converge Student Leadership Conference in the Midwest. I wish I could have been a part of it live – but I’m pumped to teach on video. Looks like such a fun event! I would highly recommend either Converge in the Midwest or Student Leadership Conference on either coast! Oh, and while we’re on the subject of student leaders, Doug Franklin has been killing it, lately!

Josh GriffinMore PostsDoug Fields’ Student Leadership Conference 2011

Doug Fields has just released the first info about his Student Leadership Conference 2011. Many people have been wondering when it would be back and I even posted about alternatives while Saddleback’s was on hiatus. But it is back on – hit the banner for details.

We are planning an experience where leaders (and potential leaders) from within your ministry will be enlightened with a new and deeper understanding of evangelism, fellowship, ministry, discipleship and worship. Through practical ministry exercises, engaging experiences, and general sessions taught by Doug Fields, student leaders will catch of vision for how they are individually wired to express God’s purposes in service to their youth ministry, family, friends, school and community.

Josh GriffinMore PostsSoul Surfer Youth Worker Movie Screenings

Was talking with Marc over at Outreach and he gave me the first word on some youth worker screenings of the upcoming movie Soul Surfer. If you haven’t heard about it yet, it looks like it is going to be great. Stars Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, Carrie Underwood, etc. and is the true story of surfer Bethany Hamilton. We’ve had Bethany at our student leadership conference in the past, and her story is inspiring, amazing and full of faith.

So go see the movie early – I know I will!

Josh GriffinMore PostsStudent Leadership Conferences That Might Be Good for Your Core Students

We’ve held a Purpose Driven Youth Ministry (PDYM) Student Leadership Conference here at Saddleback Church the past several years, and right now we’re taking a little break from it in the current season. I imagine it’ll come back again soon, details of it’s return will be here first, but what are other great options for your core students to get some training. Google is sending a lot of searchers to my site looking for the answer – so here are some thoughts on great student leadership events coming soon:

  • Student Leadership University (official website) – I’ve been to a couple of Jay Strack’s Student Leadership events with students and had a total blast. He has a unique and memorable teaching style and each event is set in a unique location. Lots of tracks available, including some advanced international stuff. Not something for a ton of students, if you’ve got some hungry kids looking for workshops, community and challenge, this might be some good stuff.
  • Converge 2011 (official website) – I’ve never been before, but love the lineup for this event in Indiana. I was privileged to record a “digital presentation” for the event. Sounds like a really great program they’ve got planned with some serious names teaching.
  • Dare 2 Share (official website) – I really like Greg Stier – he’s a one message kinda guy, but he’ll challenge your core students to reach out to their non-believing friends with the Gospel. High energy, conference-like event, with a ton of locations all over the US. Not something I would necessarily go to every year, but could be a solid challenge for your students.

What other great student-leadership/core-kid event, training or conference isn’t on my radar? Post it, promo it, plug it in the comments!
