Youth Ministry Q&A: Finding a Mentor
Question: I’m new in youth ministry. Where can I find a mentor?
Answer: I would recommend several places to find a youth ministry mentor. Because of my ministry philosophy, I would immediately suggest PDYMblog.com, which lists Purpose Driven Youth Ministry mentors by state right on their website. Just scroll down to your state and email from the list of like-minded youth workers set up to care for you. You could also try a conference that has affinity groups, where you could pick someone up by affinity as opposed to geography.
Here’s the key – don’t do ministry alone! For years, I made this mistake. Then gradually I found books, resources, podcasts and eventually people to journey with me who shared the calling of youth ministry.

I happen to know of a pretty good free mentorship program for those who have been in YM for 2 years or less. In fact, Doug’s book is one of the required texts. And there’s an awesome team of youth ministry veterans on board! Only a couple days left for people to apply, though.
I saw that the other day, but didn’t know enough about it to credibly promote it. Glad you dropped in!
