Add Celebration to Your Staff Meetings

on January 16th, 2008

We had our first real team meeting this past week with the HSM staff – we’ve met a bunch of times over the past month, but none of them really regular with all of the holidays and transition. My favorite part was the 15 minutes we took celebrating what God is doing in so many lives. Here’s the approach we took this week:

Students – we identified students who made a tangible difference this week. Several gave testimonies on stage, a few really made an impact connecting with students, one filled in for his adult small group leader and did a great job. There was a ton of reasons to celebrate our teenagers this week, but we could have easily stepped right into the new week without recognizing and celebrating students stepping up.

Volunteers -we then turned our attention to volunteers. We saw them do some great things this week – showing up early to setup, spending time with students, sitting with special needs kids and rearranging a schedule to be at a weekend service. These are great moments!

Staff – We took a few minutes to then brag on each other. The staff really shined this weekend and it was exciting to see them encourage each other and become an even stronger TEAM.

The final step was for every student or volunteer you mentioned during the staff meeting, you were required to shoot them a note of encouragement. These little encouragements and celebrations I believe will be critical as we move into the future of our student ministry.
