How are You using Twitter in Your Ministry?

on May 21st, 2009

Got an email from Rick Lawrence, the editor of GROUP Magazine, asking for insight for a new article he’s writing about Twitter and youth ministry. Leave a comment on this post, he will be sure to read it. Who knows – you might be featured in the next issue of the magazine!

If you’re unfamiliar with Twitter, you can get a basic idea of how it works and what it is here, and you can see who is using it on our student ministry team here. Here’s a couple ideas how to use it I wrote about last year, too.

Just read this article that not as many young people are using twitter than one might assume. Makes sense, more popular for those with desk jobs than students on the go. http://tinyurl.com/qma63l

I’m starting a new thing called the 28 Day Experiment with our students. It’s designed to get students in the habit of growing and each time we do it, we’ll experiment in a different area of spiritual growth. This time around, we’re reading a chapter of Acts each day in June and I’m having my students use Twitter to send their questions, insights, or observations about what they read that day and sign it with a specific hashtag so we can all follow each other’s tweets. There’s been a lot of interest so far and it should be a really cool way to connect our students with God and with each other.
