HSM Week in Review: Week 3

Weekend Teaching Series: Bringing Sexy Back (Week 3 of 4)
Message Title: Answers to Your Tough Questions
Sermon in a Sentence: Answering the top 6 questions students submitted like “is masturbation OK?” and “how far is to far?”
Weekend Scale of Difficulty: 5 out of 10, but short prep time with everyone being gone to the DRIVE Conference
Attendance: down 28% from last weekend, down 6% from the same weekend last year
Service Length: 93 minutes
Understandable Message: A- The best part of the talk was when Doug wrinkled up paper and tossed it into a chest on stage. The paper represented porn, making out, promiscuity, thought life, oral sex – basically a student’s sexual history. Then he closed the lid to the chest and said this is what you are handing your marriage partner when you say ”I do.”
Volunteer/Student Involvement: B
Element of Fun: B The Thunderclap game was hilarious if painful, we switched it up on Sunday to a Mother’s Day game that was fun and didn’t involve me getting hit. The prizes for the games were a couple of the books in the back we’ve been promoting (Technical Virign and Every Young Man’s Battle). Also, we had a silly Global Soles video that talked about shoes not reproducing themselves and students needing to bring them the last 5 weeks of the campaign - students seemed to dig it.

Notes: It was a good weekend especially figuring in the holiday weekend [Mother's Day] and competing with a couple of local proms. Doug did a great job of weaving actual student’s questions from the Sexbox into his talk. It was fun to bring a few worship songs back into the service again as well. We ended up cutting 1 of the 3 videos created for this service, which was a bummer, because it was funny but had one line in it that could send the wrong message. Next week we’ll cover regret, forgiveness and identity in Christ in the series finale.
