Weekend Teaching Series: Why I Need Christmas (Week 2 of 2)
Sermon in a Sentence: I need Christmas because Jesus gives us hope and life is not about us.
Service Length: 76 minutes
Bible: John 1:1, 2 Corinthians 5:17, John 3:30-31
Understandable Message: This weekend Jake finished up his Christmas series about hope in Jesus and why everyone needs Christmas. He did a great job and really connected with students, focusing on the need inside all of us for a Savior and the hope that Jesus gives. He taught us how generations of people, from the very beginning of the Bible, have been waiting for Him and salvation. We can receive that gift this Christmas and forever be changed.
Volunteer/Student Involvement: Student made up the band and doubled as greeters, students also ran cameras, lights, sound and helped give annoucements and do the game. Volunteers primarily worked the room, sat with students and greeted, too.
Element of Fun/Positive Environment: Five students put together a little iPod/iPhone band where each of them had downloaded an app of the instrument they normally play. All were wired into the main sound system and they kicked off the service with a super awesome rendition of Carol of the Bells. We also played a fun crowd game called Total Recall with two students dressed as giant presents that gave candy cane showers to the people who answered questions correctly about Christmas movie clips we had just played on the screen, too. Simple fun!

Favorite Moment: There were lots of great program moments and Jake is a super weekend entry-level communicator. Everything ended up going pretty well after a rough first service (argh!), but hands down the best moment was the iPod opening Christmas song. For me relationally my favorite moment was talking to a student who had fallen away for the last couple of years and came back last week for the first time in forever. She loved it, and is beginning to fall in love with Jesus again. Yes!
