This is skit #3 in the series we’re doing on cool. Plungerboy and Squirt are trying their best to be cool. I do the intro, the poorest part of the skit, but hey with a 30 minute time frame to prepare it’s not bad.

Wow, now that I think of it skits in youth ministry has been replaced my videos and crazy announcement times, atleast at our youth ministry it seems. We actually did have a skit a week or two ago, it was pretty sweet. Skits are always a fun thing to throw in and if you get the right people to do them they can be the funniest thing ever!

We have just started practicing for one we are going to do in November when we take over the adult Sunday service. I am a little worried about the outcome, but the kids are super-psyched about it. We are gonna try the Lifehouse skit, check it out on YouTube. (And yes, I do realize that its not technically a skit, but close enough.)

We don’t do them often, but we do have a skit once in a while. What we have more of is interpretive dance/movement type of illustration where the movements they make evoke the emotion of a song. The Everything “skit” comes to mind here. True skits just take too much time to rehearse and plan and our kids are already over-rushed from activities, so we try to limit it to once avery 3-4 months at the most.

I would say we completely dropped skits/drama for a while … but somehow they’re making a comeback here. I prefer video, but there’s something oddly powerful about live actors on stage. Interested to hear more reaction!

It may depend on culture and context. We’ve never really done skits in our youth ministry here in America, but a team of high schoolers did multiple skits while leading a youth camp on a recent mission trip to eastern Europe. And they rocked.

we have decided to use video instead of skits… easier to control the outcome and we can get more students to get involved… if it was a live skit… they may not want to do it because of being up in front of their friends.

we did a training of youth ministers this weekend. It included two sets of skits, one costumed training, two videos, and one set of ppt. slides (with stats) put to music. Whew!
