After two years, and finally seeing the payoff, I was fired due to a "lack of success". It also didn't help that the first guy was hired back to be my supervisor! I decided long ago that the show will only attract kids and keep them for so long, until the next big thing. Finding adults that care about teenagers and are willing to invest in their lives is the payoff. Attendance isn't the measuring stick of success, the number of disciples who are living out their faith in the real world and sharing Jesus is the better measure. I'm looking for a church that feels the same. Lots of people talk about 'people not programs' but I think leaders are nervous about going there because a program is a nice tangible thing that makes it easy to justify to your boss why they shouldn't fire you.
