This Makes It All Worth While
I haven’t taken a shower in 5 days. I’ve driven 15 hours in a RV across 3 states. I survived a carnival in a sandstorm. It’s only a matter of time before I’m dunk tanked by a laughing mob. I ate dust-flavored cotton candy yesterday. I moderately injured a student by driving over some huge bumps just a little too fast. I stood in four states at one time. I’m scared to death of all of the street dogs around here. I still haven’t had a Navajo taco.
And I can’t stop smiling from ear to ear.
Max was forced to come on this trip. He got caught tagging and his parents said he could be grounded for 3 months or go on this 1-week trip with HSM. Can you guess which one he chose? The lesser of the two punishments – going on a church event for a few days. Gotta love that. But here’s the deal – in the craziness of this week – work projects, dusty carnivals, dunk tanks and long distance driving – God showed up. He reached into this kid’s heart and he accepted Christ the other night. He has never been to our church, never been into a service, never prayed before. His first prayer to God was giving him his life.
There are a lot of days that make me question my calling. The church politics I’ve briefly escaped from during this trip will return in 48 hours. All of the stuff we put up with do do youth ministry is still present … but days like this make it all worth while.
