Not directly related, but tangential and interesting: one counterintuitive finding of recent research is that students who go to college are LESS likely to leave the faith than those who don't go on to college.

It's nice to hear someone saying what I've always suspected. Part of the reason I became a youth pastor is because of the relationships I built on the drama and worship teams in youth group. They don't stick around because they're not plugged in. Good work.

Thanks Josh for this post.

After working with college students for over 12 years, I know of a number of students whose faith and commitment to Christ and the local church was more based on the relevance of the churches surrounding their campus community, than the temptations college life has to offer.

I do hope most (churches) this year will cease to trying to beat up twentysomethings / but rather take the time to look at what they may not be doing to actively engage with their world.

Thanks again!

Excellent conclusion. In my Master's Degree research - "Why Young People Leave the Church" the result was very similar - with a specific leaning towards the fact that 'they didn't have a relationship with a caring adult' - i.e. did not feel connected.

If anyone would like a free 4 part report on my research just go to http://www.youthworkercoach.com
